AUSTRALIAN FROGS              65

Also known as Green Bell Frog, Green and Golden Swamp Frog and Green Frog. Ground dwelling tree frog; one of Australia's largest frogs. Native to eastern Australia.  Eats insects, but sometimes worms and mice. Mainly diurnal, less active in winter.

AUSTRALIAN FROGS.              53

Also known as King Tree Frog. Found on West Coast of Tasmania, endemic to Tasmania. Associated with dams, ponds, road-side ditches in rainforest, sedge land, alpine country and moorland.

Also known as Green Reed Frog. Found in vegetation around temporary water bodies and small streams. Ranges across Kimberley, WA, and northern NT and Queensland.

Range on floodplains of northern Northern Territory and extending into extreme nw of WA and on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland.  Found in permanent waterbodies or areas of intense inundation in the wet season.

Found in extreme sw WA. Dense vegetation at the edge of static or slow moving water. Distinctive call which resembles a motorbike.

Also known as Western Bell Frog. Found amongst dense grasses; hides beneath rocks and logs. Distribution is along sw WA coast up to Geraldton.

Shelters beneath logs on sandy soils. Found in the sw WA, excluding extreme corner. Burrows head first into soil. Eats termites.

Found in the sw of WA entering arid zone, but absent from the coast. Burrows in banks or beneath stones of watercourses.

Also known as Western Pobblebonk. Confined to the south-west of WA. Found in a range of open environments from open grassland to creek banks.

Also known as Long-thumbed Frog. Found throughout the River Murray in SA, Victoria, to central NSW and Queensland. Beside areas of permanent water where hides under debris.

Also known as Round Frog. Range throughout Kimberley, WA, the northern 2/3 of NT, and east into nw Queensland. Found in diverse areas but mostly in poorly vegetated areas.
