AUSTRALIAN FROGS.              73

Ranges through coastal south-eastern Queensland and north-eastern NSW. Found in sclerophyll forest and marshes, where there is leaf litter or other material covering the soil. Status is secure.

Also known as Southern Barred Frog. Status is vulnerable. Found in riparian vegetation at elevations of 20m to 1100m. Ranges from north-eastern Victoria through coastal NSW to the extreme south-east of Queensland.

Closely associated with permanent rocky streams. Formerly extensive range along entire Great Div riding Range in NSW, but declined to two or three isolated areas.

Extends from south of Newcastle along the NSW coast to eastern Victoria. Found in sclerophyll forest, coastal woodland and heath, occurs at low altitudes on hills and mountains.

Also known as Verreaux's Tree Frog. Distribution extreme se Queensland, eastern NSW and se Victoria. Found most commonly in open grassland beside bodies of permanent water.

Also known as Green Bell Frog, Green and Golden Swamp Frog and Green Frog. Ground dwelling tree frog; one of Australia's largest frogs. Native to eastern Australia.  Eats insects, but sometimes worms and mice. Mainly diurnal, less active in winter.

Also known as Warty Waterholding Frog. Found in southern Queensland and northern NSW west of the Great Dividing Range. Lives around water courses, including pools and small waterbodies, as well as flooded grassland and playpens. Feeds on invertebrates and other frogs.

Also known as Red-crowned Broodfrog. Confined to areas of Hawkesbury sandstone within a 160 km radius of Sydney. Nocturnal. Lives in areas of seepage around the base of sandstone and large rocks.

Found in southeastern Australia, from Wollemi national park, NSW to Gippsland, northeastern Victoria. Inhabits creeks and streams in forests, and rocky stream beds in deep forests. Feeds on invertebrates.
